I wore the most unflattering outfit for my body type

IMG_5759.jpg

Dressing plus-size women has never been about fashion but on how to hide our bodies. We were told to wear clothes that were flattering, not fashionable. But with the growth of fat style bloggers what is flattering has changed.

I always thought I shouldn’t wear anything that made my most unflattering features seem bigger than they were. That included my thick jiggly arms and my round belly.

Even now, that I consider myself confident I think twice before wearing certain clothes because it wouldn’t help me fake an hourglass shape. But why? Why do we have to resemble hourglass bodies to be fashionable? My goal is to be as stylish not flattering.

I recently went shopping at Times Square’s Forever21 and found this top. It was everything I shouldn’t be wearing. It would make me look wider and would emphasize my arms.

Without thinking twice I purchased the top that would make my arms look wider and wore it with a denim skirt that would give me a very visible belly outline. It was everything that I shouldn’t be wearing.

After putting the look on I knew I was wearing one of my favorite outfits so far this summer. To think that I would have not worn it because others think it was unflattering is frustrating. I wore it all day and no one died nor did I lose value as a person for wearing “unflattering” clothes.

Fashion over fear always!

What I’m wearing:

Hey Jessica just wanted to say your great and I am inspired by you every day to be fearless. I’ve had body issues forever and it so hard to love myself sometimes because I’ve spent so much time comparing myself to others. I’m learning that everyone is different and we all deserve to be happy in our own skin. Keep doing what your doing its awesome!

  • I think that it’s important to love and accept your body but accepting your body as it is doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to change it for the better. Your appearance doesn’t maatter. You can be fat and attractive, but not fat and healthy. Generally, healthy comes across as more attractive. That’s why people are so desparate to lose weight. You should love your body, but also take care of it. I mean… if you love your body, you probably shouldn’t be increasing your risk of physical problems as well as the increased risk of depression that comes w/ being overweight.

How dare you. Who are you to publicly give unsolicited medical advice to a complete stranger. You’ve ENTIRELY missed the point of the post, which is fashion. All you’ve talked about is body shape. You’re part of the problem, and YOURE the one who needs help.

Also, the things you say aren’t even true!!! You CAN be fat and healthy, and health is NOT the reason so many ppl are trying to lose weight, an unhealthy focus on appearance is the reason! If the reason were health, eating disorders wouldn’t be so prevalent.
